getting to the 2016 British Shogi Championship

The venue for the 2016 British Shogi Championship is the Friday Hall community centre on Friday Hill in Chingford, in the east London Borough of Waltham Forest.

The address is 56 Friday Hill East, London E4 6JT.
Getting to the venue by public transport

The simplest way to get to the venue is to get a train to Chingford, then a bus to Friday Hill.

Chingford station is the final stop on the overground railway line from Liverpool Street to Chingford.  Services run every 15 minutes on Saturday and Sunday. If you are coming from Central London, it will often be faster to take the Underground to Walthamstow Central and take the train to Chingford from there. To work out the best route, you can look at Citymapper or the TfL route planner.

When you get to Chingford Station, you can get the 212  either at the bus station Stop B (just to the east of the railway station), or from Stop E on Station Road, (slightly to the west of the station). There are buses every 10 minutes or so. Citymapper or TfL might suggest you take a different bus to the 212: that's probably OK, but you might have to walk further if you take a different bus.

The 212 bus takes slightly more than 5 minutes to get to the Simmons Lane stop. From there you can see the Dovecote public house; without crossing the road, keep on walking along Friday Hill past the Dovecote and its garden. You will come to Normanton Park and at this point Friday Hill East starts, running parallel to Friday Hill. The first building is a nursery, and the second is Friday Hall.

If you miss getting off at Simmons Lane, the next stop is Chingdale Road. Without crossing the road just walk up Friday Hill East until you see number 56.

Getting to the venue by car
If you are coming by car then the address and the postcode E4 6JT can be used in a satnav and they should get you to the right place.

There is parking space for a couple of cars to the left of the hall. This space is shared with the Little Miracles Nursery, so please park on the Friday Hall side.  Normally you can park on the street nearby, and that's often easier.

next weekend 2016 British Shogi Championships

This is to remind people that Waltham Forest Shogi will be holding the 2016 British Shogi Championships in Chingford over the weekend of Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October.

There will be an entry fee of £15 payable on the Saturday before play starts. There will be a trophy for the winner(s) and other goodies.

Entries should be sent by email to David Faldon.
The exact format will be determined based on the number of entries and the range of grades.  On Sunday we will hold a quickplay tournament after the main event if there is time. Each player will start with 25 minutes on their clock. Once a player has used up their 25 minutes, each further move must then be played within 40 seconds. If anyone is unfamiliar with this system please ask before play starts. Note for regular players - please bring a byoyomi clock if you have one.

The venue is the Friday Hall community centre, 56 Friday Hill East, London E4 6JT. More information on getting to the venue will be provided in another message.
